Security in mObywatel: New "Restrict Document" Service

Your digital security is a priority. From now on, using the mObywatel app, you can instantly restrict your ID card or passport from the comfort of your home and, if necessary, lift the restriction just as quickly. This solution protects you from the consequences of identity theft without the need to wait in lines.

How does it work?

The service is integrated with the Restricted Documents System (SDZ) of the Polish Bank Association. This is a nationwide database used by banks, mobile operators, notaries, and rental companies. When you restrict a document in the app, information is immediately sent to all entities using the system.

Who can use this service?

To manage document restrictions in mObywatel, you must meet three conditions:

  • Be of legal age (18+).

  • Have the app version 4.75.0 or higher.

  • Have an active mDowód (digital ID).

Instructions: How to restrict a document step-by-step

Restricting your ID card or passport takes only a few seconds:

  1. Log in to the mObywatel app.

  2. Go to the Services (Usługi) section.

  3. In the Data Protection (Ochrona danych) category, select Restrict document (Zastrzeż dokument).

  4. Select the specific document (e.g., ID card), then click Restrict ID (Zastrzeż dowód).

  5. Press Confirm (Potwierdź). Done! Your data is now secure.

Instructions: How to lift a restriction?

If your document has been found and you are certain it did not fall into the wrong hands, you can restore its validity:

  1. In the Restrict document service, select the previously restricted document.

  2. Click the Lift restriction (Cofnij zastrzeżenie) button.

  3. Confirm your choice by clicking Confirm (Potwierdź).

Important! If you restrict a document via the mObywatel app, you can only lift that restriction through the app. However, if you restricted the document directly at a bank, you must visit the appropriate bank branch to withdraw the restriction.

Check your document status

In mObywatel, you can verify at any time whether your document is listed as restricted in the Polish Bank Association database. For security reasons, the app will only show the fact that the document is restricted; it will not display the name of the specific bank where the report was made.

Service Availability

The new functionality is being rolled out in stages. The service will be available to all mObywatel app users no later than February 9, 2026.
